Marilyn Monroe US Posters
As I mentioned in all her other wings, Marilyn Monroe made some wonderful films. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is very funny and Marilyn played the part so well with her costar, Jane Russell. In 1953’s How to Marry a Millionaire, Marilyn was perfect with Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall. Though Betty was a major sex symbol in the 1940’s, she knew time was passing and she seemed happy to pass the crown on to Marilyn. As Betty said to Marilyn, “Honey, I’ve had mine…now go and get yours.”
Another favorite film of mine is There’s No Business Like Show Business. I saw this as a child and loved it. I loved when Marilyn sang Heat Wave, which caused quite a scandal at the time. Although Marilyn’s costume was beautiful, and by today’s standards sedate, many people were outraged that the costume gave the illusion that she might not be wearing underwear. I was six years old at the time when I saw Marilyn sing this song. I loved her and the song, and I memorized all the lines. I didn’t know what I was singing, but all I knew was I loved the song. I also loved when Donald O’Connor sang and danced to A Man Chases a Girl (Until She Catches Him).
And I’ll say it again, if you haven’t seen Niagara, don’t miss it.

“Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.”
“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
“The nicest thing for me is sleep, then at least I can dream.”
“My work is the only ground I’ve ever had to stand on. To put it bluntly, I seem to have a whole super structure with no foundation, but I’m working on the foundation.”
