The Three Caballeros
The Three Caballeros began their fascination for me when I first heard Johnny Mathis singing “Baia”. The song is beautiful and sensual. It became one of my all-time favorite pieces of music and I had to trace the history of it. I found the song came from this 1945 Donald Duck movie, The Three Caballeros. I couldn’t believe it! Donald Duck? Baia? I was truly shocked.
Then I got to see the film and it was beautiful. It is almost like a travel log with Donald traveling around the world with his friend, José Carioca, the cigar-smoking parrot and Panchito Pistoles, the pistol-packing rooster.
It is interesting to note that when the movie first came out it caused quite a scandal. Apparently there were people who believed that it was just wrong for a duck to be lusting after a real woman.
Oh my, how times have changed! Oh Baia!
